1UZ-FE Toyota/Lexus V8

V8 engine It was at a Toymods dyno day that I first saw a 1UZ. It was in Jamie Herritage's TA22 celica, and it was twin turbocharged. It was increadible. After seeing his car I did a lot of research into the engine and its potential. I found out a few interesting things.

The 1UZ is a small V8 of "only" 4 Litres but often referred to as "over engineered" with 38 valves, 6 bolt mains, 10.1 compression, close to square bore:stroke and shim under bucket lifters this engine was built to rev hard.

V8 Going in When my turbo blew I made a decision to put the 1UZ into my MA70 supra. Without doing any measurements, calculations or checking (stupid) I rang around and sourced myself an engine. A week later it arived, my father in law Ron came up and the 3L was pulled out. Then after a few trial fits of the new engine I realised I needed to change a few things.

1UZ Supra Sump and exhaust headers were the major fitment problems. The headers I had were too wide for the double wishbone front suspension of the supra, and the front mount sump fouled directly on my crossmember. A ring around found me a set of headers from Melbourne and a rear sump & pickup from Adelaide. These were both a direct swap and the engine now fit in.

1UZ Finally my custom bellhousing turned up, and we made some custom engine mounts and using some new rubbers from a Toyota Soarer from Just Jap. After 14 attempts the engine was finally bolted in. We didn't move the gearbox so didn't need to change the mount or stick location. The power steering lines simply plugged in and the alternator wires were extended and plugged in. It was then towed around on my car trailer to get the exhaust and fuel lines done and finally dropped off at the tuners workshop to get the computer done.
